What we're waiting to see is if the margins of tissue removed around the cancer are free of cancer cells. If so, then she got it all and won't need to remove more. If there are still a lot of cancer cells there, then she'll need to go back in and take out more tissue. Same with the sentinel nodes. If the two removed are clear of cancer, then she won't need to take any more; however if they're full of cancer, then she'll need to do an axillary node dissection and remove several more lymph nodes.
Regarding my liver, she still thinks more testing needs to be completed, though she thinks it may be a type of cyst. She said it wasn't of enough concern at the time to postpone the surgery but she still wanted to investigate it. So that will be something to look into further in the coming weeks.
My next appointment is October 16. She'll check how things are healing then and if everything has come back okay, send me off to work. Until then, I'll be watching TV and catching up with friends.
For those of you nearby, come over and say "Hi!" - I'd welcome the visit and I'm sure we can round up enough interest to play a game or three.

For some reason "What about Bob" just came to mind. "Baby steps to the door. Baby steps to the elevator. Baby steps to the...." Pretty much all you can do, right? Sounds like you're doing it well, though! Keep taking those baby steps!
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeleteIt feels like baby steps and each step forward is contingent on the current step being successfully completed... foot firmly down and in place before the next step can be started. Sometimes it seems like there hasn't been tons of progress yet. Though, one major step has been completed with the surgery out of the way now.
