Today was the final heavy chemo dose! No more "red devil" as one is aptly named... It's bright red and if you don't keep your mouth cold while they push it, you get sores. I am also not doing the Neulasta again so I have three weeks before my next chemo treatment.
As for the infection, no bacteria or fungus was found so far and there is one test result still to come in. Waiting still to hear if they want another antibiotic or to go in and clear it out or just let my body deal with it. Provided I don't get another fever, I go back to work on Monday (or maybe Tuesday, if I am off for MLK). Fingers crossed! I've about hit my limit on being stuck at home on "vacation".
Taxol is the next chemo drug, it is a much lighter dose so is given weekly, and my hair will probably start growing back before I finish the 12 treatments. Downside, one of the possible side effects is loss of feeling in nerve endings; however, I was told by my doc that B-6 helps nerves regeneration and to start taking it a week before treatment and continue it for six months after the last dose.
Sometime after the Taxol is completed, I will go through six weeks of radiation treatment and then it will be just monitoring until they can give the all clear in five years. Of course, there will be still some time before I am back to what passes for a normal human. (Hubby claims I'm part alien... I can neither confirm nor deny his claims.)
Love & Hugs!
