Hell Week

As the title suggests... the past week has been hell.

The first chemo treatment was the week before and other than a bit of nausea, the weekend went well enough.

Then began a really rough week.

It all started Monday as I crossed the street from the parking lot to the building I work in... some dumbass couldn't wait two more seconds to turn left. So he clipped the back of my left leg with his car. Other than a couple bruises, I'm fine. Though, I have to say that most of Monday was taken up dealing with it. Since it happened at work, I had to call the cops and file a report. Which meant the ambulance was also sent. I refused to go to the hospital though... after all it was just going to be bruises. Then had to go file a report that got sent post-wide about what happened. (Yes, your tax dollars were hard at work that day. *winks*) For a couple hours, I actually got to work before having to go to the post clinic so the injury could be put in my file.  That itself turned out to take a couple hours as I got there just before their lunch and had to return afterwards. And then, I had to go to worker's comp to be advised of my rights. Wheeee! By the time all was said and done... it was time to go home.

I still don't know how the guy couldn't see me... yes, it was 6 AM and still kinda dark... a little froggy maybe... but the intersection is lit (not brightly, but well enough) and I wear a bright RED coat. I don't think you could get one any redder. Short of adding lights or reflective tape to it, I should have contrasted nicely with the pavement and the rest of the environment. Yet somehow the driver failed to see me. He did stop and ask if I was okay. My response was along the lines of "Ummm.... no, you just hit me." Though I think he may have missed the dripping sarcasm in my reply.

Monday night, I started getting sick and had a fever. And by Tuesday, I was feeling all kinds of weird. So, I called my doctor and went to see her. Turns out I was dehydrated and picked up some sort of bug. I was told I needed more sodium, more fluids and got an antibiotic. It's not everyday you're told to increase your salt intake by your doctor. Then again, it's not everyday you're told to increase calories & protein and to not worry about trying to lose weight.

I stayed home Tuesday & Wednesday. Went to work on Thursday. Spent an hour in a safety review meeting because of the accident. Had to describe what happened (again) and answer questions. Then went through and totally picked apart the scene, looking for contributing factors to the accident. The whole point of the safety review is to figure out what happened, how it happened, why it happened and how to keep it from happening again. They decided a formal inquiry was needed and they also think more lighting was needed in the area. I did learn one thing of use tho, because of the chemo treatments, I can probably get a temporary handicapped tag, and with that, I can apply for a parking space that's inside the fence and much closer to the building. So when I see my doctor on Wednesday, I'm going to ask her for a note to get one. With winter approaching, not having to walk as far to the building will be very nice.

Friday (yesterday), I got a power port put in. So right now, my left shoulder is achy and not all that pleased with me at the moment. Though I think most of the discomfort is actually from the anesthetic settling in the shoulder and not the actual incision. The upside to having a port is chemo treatments will be much easier and my poor veins will be spared further trauma. The port can also be used for all  my labs and any IVs I may need in the future. I have a new bracelet to wear that identifies me as someone with a power port too.

So that has been my week thus far... the weekend plans are to just rest and recuperate. Next week, I have my second chemo treatment on Wednesday. Wish me luck!

Love & Hugs
