Chemo

I met my oncologist Wednesday. We went over my health and discussed the chemo treatment options and talked about possibly participating in a treatment study. We talked about the various side effects and things they will be monitoring closely, such as all my blood counts.

If I participate in the study, I'll either be doing 4 cycles of one regimen (2-3 chemo drugs, every 14 days for 8 weeks) and 12 cycles of another chemo drug (every 7 days for 12 weeks) OR 6 cycles of one regimen (2 chemo drugs, every 21 days for 18 weeks). The study is to compare the effectiveness of the second treatment option compared to the current standard as well as tracking long and short term side effects.

Today I have to get some blood drawn and have a sonogram of my heart done. Seems one of the chemo drugs in the study can affect how the heart pumps blood. So, they want to be sure I can tolerate whichever regimen I may fall under before approving my participation should I choose to do the study. Also, the day before I get the chemo, I have to go to the lab and have blood drawn so they can make sure everything there is okay before they proceed.

More as I find out.

Love & Hugs
